Duncan Bain

Duncan joined the Energy & Utility Skills Board in April 2024, bringing with him a wealth of Board level experience, in both executive and trustee capacities. He is a Chartered Accountant and experienced CFO with 35 years working in various Finance, Audit and Risk roles within both small and large businesses.
Duncan began his career with Arthur Andersen, followed by 12 years with the Aviva Group, including 8 years in its European Division. He then spent 7 years as CFO of Cambridge Building Society and most recently was CFO of a private equity backed technology company. For the last 7 years, he has been a Board Trustee at Djanogly Learning Trust, an ambitiously growing multi-academy trust based in the East Midlands. He is passionate about education and skills development among young people and has helped the Trust expand from 3 to 9 schools during his time there. He is a member of the Trust’s Audit, Risk and Finance Committee and has chaired that committee for the last 4 years.
Duncan has a keen interest in the environment and has a BSc (Hons) in Ecological Sciences, as well as being chair of a local ecology group. He also recently consulted part-time for a business that provides development finance to enable construction of anaerobic digestion and waste to energy plants in the UK.
He is married with two grown-up children and lives near Nottingham. In his leisure time, he loves playing golf and table tennis, hiking, and watching Leicester Tigers Rugby with his son.
