National Occupational Standards (NOS) and Apprenticeship Frameworks
National Occupational Standards are developed by employers and experts in our industries under the guidance of the Energy & Utility Skills Group.
National Occupational Standards
National Occupational Standards, or NOS, describe the knowledge, skills and understanding an individual needs to have to be competent at a job.
NOS exist for all sectors and can be applied across the UK and can be used in the development of in-house training programmes, creating job descriptions or used by individuals to research job roles. They are also a key competent for some qualifications and apprenticeship frameworks.
Energy & Utility Skills facilitates the development of new NOS, and the review of existing NOS, for the energy and utility sector. The development and review of NOS are subject to a formal process and public consultation, followed by four nation approval, to ensure they reflect current industry practices across all of the UK.
All approved NOS are publicly available on the National Occupational Standards database website.
