Queen’s Speech – A Sector Perspective

Today’s Queen’s Speech outlined forthcoming legislation that will support the Government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee, aiming to ensure flexible access to high quality education and training for all. The new legislation will put employers at the heart of the leadership of skills through statutory Local Skills Improvement Plans and will give them a central role in working with further education colleges, other skills providers and stakeholders to develop skills delivery and  ensure that technical skills provision meets employers’ needs. The Government will now engage employer and provider groups across the country to ensure that the model of employer representation used in each local area is the most effective in supporting local skills systems.

Through our established industry groups, monitoring of policy development, and continuing stakeholder engagement, Energy & Utility Skills supports the development of green skills in technical education and apprenticeships. We will work to ensure that both new and existing employees in the Power, Gas, Water and Waste Management workforces can access the high quality green skills training and sustainable careers that the sector will need to meet the net zero target.
