National Grid’s former chief engineer joins the Board of Energy & Utility Skills

Energy & Utility Skills is delighted to welcome David Wright FREng FIET MIGEM to our Board as a Non-Executive Director. 

David brings more than 30 years of leadership experience across energy and infrastructure in the UK and US. Formerly Chief Engineer and Chief Risk Officer at National Grid plc, he led the UK electricity transmission business for eight years and played a pivotal role in shaping National Grid’s energy transition strategy. 

Today, David holds a plural non-executive portfolio spanning regulated infrastructure, professional skills, and innovation. His roles include Chair of the Energy Research Partnership, advisor to UK Research and Innovation’s Clean Energy Superpower Mission, and member of the Science and Technology Advisory Council at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. 

A Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and dual Chartered Engineer, David offers boards a unique blend of systems thinking, integrity-led leadership, and cross-sector expertise in governance, engineering risk, and system transformation.
