Safety is of paramount importance for the gas industry, and this will continue to be true as the industry plans and prepares for the potential introduction of hydrogen to the network.
As a part of a project commissioned by the Department for Business, Energy, & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), Energy & Utility Skills has launched a consultation with the gas industry to determine the new set of entry criteria for the gas safe register.
These criteria will ensure the safe installation of hydrogen-fuelled appliances, and the competence of all engineers involved in these installations.
The Consultation on Engineer Entry Criteria will be open for responses until 17:00 on 24 January 2022.

Responses to the consultation are being collected through this short survey.
This will be part of a wider programme which follows on from initial work carried out in 2021 as part of the BEIS Hy4Heat programme to develop a Hydrogen Competency Framework. The Framework will be available for engineers in preparation for initial community-based trials, scheduled to begin in Spring 2023.
The Framework will ensure that all existing Gas Safe Registered engineers will receive appropriate hydrogen training, and that they are able to demonstrate the levels of competence required.
