Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage

As part of the Green Jobs Delivery Group (GJDG), we are continuing to work collaboratively with government, industry and key stakeholders with the aim to set out clear plans to enable the UK workforce to deliver net zero and wider environmental goals.

As well as our lead role in the Power Networks workstream of the Green Jobs Delivery Group, we are now also taking a lead role in the Carbon Capture element of the Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) workstream. Having agreed with the workstream that this was a priority for our power generation industry, the task and finish group will collaborate with industry to:

  • Define the roles and scale of demand based on industry and government agreed timelines
  • Map routes to competence
  • Assess the current skills infrastructure
  • Develop appropriate standards, qualifications, and apprenticeships (if required).

We will report our findings and progress back into the CCUS GJDG and continue to engage key stakeholders as part of the wider National Skills Academy for Power (NSAP) delivery model.

This work is an important step towards ensuring skills systems are in place to deliver a skilled workforce that can support the growth of the CCUS industry, and the wider environmental considerations associated with decarbonising thermal power generation.
