National Occupational Standards (NOS) Update August 2024

As part of our Skills Voice of Industry proposition, Energy & Utility Skills is pleased to announce the completion of several NOS reviews, following valued contribution from industry. 

These standards outline the performance, knowledge, and skills required for various roles within the energy and utilities sector.

We are delighted to confirm that the following NOS reviews are now complete and published on the national NOS Database. Energy & Utility Skills wishes to thank members for their invaluable contributions during the review process:

  • Multi-Utility Network Construction: For undertaking new connections of gas and water.
  • Water Treatment Processing & Control: For operating, controlling, and maintaining treatment processes for water, wastewater, and sludge to meet required standards.
  • Water Regulation and Byelaws Enforcement: Ensuring compliance with water fittings regulations and byelaws.
  • Smart Metering: For the safe installation, exchange, commissioning, decommissioning, and ongoing maintenance of gas and electric smart meters, associated equipment, and communication systems.
  • Wind Turbine: For the safe preassembly, operation, and maintenance of plant and apparatus at onshore and offshore wind turbine facilities.

We are now planning further NOS and Scottish Qualification reviews for this year. It’s crucial to involve technical experts in these reviews to ensure the standards reflect the latest innovations and working practices in the sector.

The upcoming NOS reviews include:

  • Multi-Utility Management Skills
  • Gas Networks Engineering Management
  • Recycling Activities
  • Sewerage Maintenance
