An Electrical Power Networks Engineer works in an engineering team to maintain and repair assets on the electricity network. They provide engineering solutions to abnormal conditions. They will work in engineering teams that may include Power Networks Craftsperson, senior Engineers and other business specialists, for example procurement, finance and telecommunications engineers.
Gateway Requirements
- The stage of the apprenticeship where the apprentice, employer and training provider determine whether the apprentice is ready to undertake end-point assessment
- Apprentices must have compiled and submitted a work log of evidence to underpin the technical interview
- Apprentices must have achieved English and Mathematics at Level 2 or higher
The Assessment
- Knowledge test (40 questions, 1 hour).
- Practical observation - The apprentice undertakes work related to their specific role. On actual plant and equipment in a real working environment in the apprentice’s normal place of work. Typically, no longer than 1 day, and the actual time allowed will be based on the comparable time that an industry competent worker would take to achieve successful task(s) completion for example 5 – 6 hours.
- Technical Interview based on the Work Log of evidence (2.75 hours and a maximum of 3 hours. A set of open questions will be asked. Additional follow up questions are allowed, to seek clarification).
