National Occupational Standards (NOS) and Apprenticeship Frameworks

National Occupational Standards

National Occupational Standards (NOS) specify UK standards of performance that people are expected to achieve in their work, and the knowledge and skills they need to perform effectively.

NOS are developed by employers and experts in our industries under the guidance of the Energy & Utility Skills Group. They are then subject to formal consultation and approval processes. NOS are approved by UK government regulators, to make sure they reflect industry practices across the whole of the UK.

They can be used in a number of different ways and are available for every industry in the UK.  The most up-to-date standards for various industries are available on the National Occupational Standards database.
