Description
The Network Construction Operations (Gas) scheme is for individuals working on gas network infrastructure sites and categorises some aspects into ‘size’ categories; it can also incorporate registration of an individual’s specialist skills.
Registration on NCO (Gas) is available in the following categories:
- Trainee
- Experienced Worker
- Assistant
- Service Layer
- Mains Layer up to 180mm
- Mains Layer up to 355mm
- Mains Layer 400mm and above
- Escape, Locate and Repair
In addition to the registration category listed above, the individual will also be registered as either ‘Self-Lay’ or ‘Distribution’ – determined by their qualification and submitted as part of the evidence requirements.
Registration on EUSR
Registration on EUSR is gained when the evidence for registration has been submitted and verified. For new-entrant individuals, evidence requirements include the industry-specified NVQ – see more detail within each registration category.
For NCO (Gas) registration on EUSR, it is a pre-requisite that the individual holds a valid EUSR registration for SHEA Gas.
NCO (Gas) registration is valid for five years, with the exception of the Trainee and Experienced Worker categories. Registration for the Trainee and Experienced Worker categories are valid for 18 months and are non-renewable.
- Individuals may not be registered as a Trainee more than once

More information on Plastic Smart Cards
All new EUSR registrations now come with a virtual card by default, which makes checking the card quicker and more secure on site and reduces the plastic we all use. Some employers may also pay £3 for an additional plastic smart card. You must provide a mobile number to receive an SMS message with a unique registration and PIN number to access your virtual card.
