EUIAS: Supporting the Future of Energy and Utilities through End-Point Assessments and Qualifications

25th Anniversary

As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, we’re proud to reflect on the achievements across each key area of our business and to look forward to how we’ll continue supporting the sector over the next 25 years.

In 2015, the UK government initiated a significant reform in the apprenticeship system, transitioning from framework apprenticeships to standard apprenticeships. As part of this reform, Energy & Utility Skills established Energy & Utility Independent Assessment Service (EUIAS) to support the new end-point assessments.

In March 2016, EUIAS set a milestone by conducting the very first end-point assessment in the country for the Power Network Craftsperson apprenticeship standard. Since then, we have become a trusted end-point assessment organisation with a focus on supporting technical and safety-critical apprenticeships.

Today we cover a wide range of apprenticeships in the energy and utilities sector and adjacent industries. This includes all power industry apprenticeships, including transmission and distribution, and the upstream gas sector. For many of these standards we are the only end-point assessment organisation showing our ongoing commitment to the industries we serve.

Building a Pathway to Recognised Qualifications

In 2023, building on our success with end-point assessments, we expanded into the development of qualifications to further support the energy and utilities sector. This expansion complements our existing offerings by providing employers with more opportunities to retain and develop their workforce, while also helping to attract new talent to the industry.

Our qualifications are carefully designed to equip learners with the essential skills needed to meet both industry and regulatory standards. Each qualification undergoes a rigorous development process to ensure it is relevant and fit for purpose, and ultimately supporting the sector’s long-term growth and sustainability.

A Team Driving Quality and Compliance

Our success is driven by a highly experienced team committed to maintaining the highest standards of quality, compliance and customer service:

  • The assessment and qualification development team, composed of experts with extensive backgrounds in awarding bodies, ensures that every assessment and qualification is rigorous and robust, meets regulatory requirements and is aligned to industry expectations.
  • The Quality and Compliance team, ensures that assessment processes are adhered to and ensure our assessors and quality assurers  are well-trained, consistent, and compliant with all regulatory standards.
  • The Service Delivery team is key to the smooth running of assessments and qualifications, managing scheduling and logistics to guarantee that apprentices, learners, quality assurers and assessors are in the right place at the right time. Their focus on customer service ensures that the entire assessment process runs smoothly and efficiently.

Supporting Workforce Demands

With the energy and utilities sector needing to attract and recruit more than 312,000 people over the next six years, EUIAS remains committed to supporting the sector through the creation of new qualifications and expanding our end-point assessment offering in order to meet the industry’s evolving demands.

By actively engaging with industry employers and stakeholders we are able to identify their needs and respond quickly. This commitment not only supports new entrants into the sector but also career progression opportunities to help retain existing employees.

Our proactive approach to qualifications and end-point assessments, combined with our commitment to quality and compliance and excellent service delivery, establishes us as a key partner in the energy and utilities industries. By collaborating closely with industry stakeholders and understanding the sector’s evolving demands, we are instrumental in helping the UK achieve its net zero targets while fostering a skilled and resilient workforce.
