Phil Beach CBE has been appointed as Chair of the Energy & Utility Skills Board

Joining the organisation in 2020, in his role as CEO Phil has been instrumental in steering Energy & Utility Skills’ vision for skills for a greener world. During his tenure, he has led the achievement of growth in both income and influence as well as making Energy & Utility Skills a great place to work.

Phil transitions from CEO of Energy & Utility Skills, to Chair of the Board in April 2025 as the organisation concludes its current rolling three year strategic period.

Energy & Utility Skills’ recent 2030 Workforce Demand Report highlights that over 300,000 new people are needed in the sector to fill new roles and replace those entering retirement over the next 6 years. With changes in the skills landscape under a new Government coupled with complexities in sector diversity, attraction, recruitment and retention, Phil’s contributions as Chair will be essential in overseeing Energy & Utility Skills’ continued support of the sector in achieving its ambitions to be a clean energy superpower and to mitigate the risk of climate change

Phil succeeds Jan Ward CBE who will step down on 31 September after 9 years in the role of Chair. Tracey Matthews has been appointed Interim Chair until Phil moves into the role.

We would like to congratulate Phil on behalf of the Board and all at Energy & Utility Skills, and also give our sincerest thanks to Jan for her key role that she has played as Chair over her tenure.
