Help shape the Northern Ireland Framework for Sustainable Resource Management

We will be holding a meeting online to discuss the standard on Tuesday 13 December

Help shape the Northern Ireland Framework for Sustainable Resource Management

Stakeholders in the waste and recycling management industry in Northern Ireland are invited to get involved in a new review of the Sustainable resource management – level 2 apprenticeship framework

Apprenticeships enable employers to support succession planning and identify managers of the future whilst delivering improved staff motivation and retention.

This framework under review specifies the standards and the criteria for the delivery of level 2 apprenticeship training to achieve qualified status within the waste management sector.

It is the only level 2 training in this subject acceptable for ApprenticeshipsNI funding, supporting roles including Recycling Operative, Household Waste Recycling Centre Operative, Waste Collection Operative and Organic Waste Operative

The review provides a key opportunity to address the current and future skills shortages identified by the industry, as well as to identify ways the industry can meet the needs of the green economy.

The review will take place between November 2022 and March 2023, with the revised Framework expected to be available by late 2023, depending on review requirements.

In order to ensure the revised Framework meets the current and future skills needs of the industry, it is vital we secure the views of a range of stakeholders and industry experts.

Your first opportunity to understand more about what the review means to you and how to get involved will be at a Microsoft Teams call scheduled for Tuesday 13 December at 3pm. You will need to register if you are interested in joining us.

On this call we will:

  • Identify the content of the Framework, ensuring it meets the needs of employers and is written to a standard format that can easily be understood.
  • Review existing provision in relation to legislation that affects NI and core environmental sustainability principles.
  • Confirm that any included qualifications are appropriate and add value to the quality of the framework.

Our Standards and Qualification Review Privacy Notice sets out how Energy & Utility Skills uses and protects any information you give us as part of the Framework development process.
